Why Control?
Diseases: Weil's disease (leptospirosis) is shed in the rat's urine, Salmonellosis, contamination of food, damage to property; they kill other wildlife, breed and spread rapidly if not controlled.
HOUSE MOUSE: (Mus Domesticus)
Why Control?
Diseases: Samonellosis (food poisoning) and Lymphocytic choriomeningitis. Contaminating the environment and possibly the food in the area they infest. Damage to lead, plastic, aluminium, and a range of other materials, causing costly repairs and even fires when electrical supplies are damage.
Treatment:
Poison baiting is usually used for rat and mice treatment as this more reliable than other methods. Rats and mice may need to feed several times before dying. If they consume enough poison to give them a lethal dose, on their first feed, they will not suffer any ill effects until several days later. This ensures that they do not become suspicious and associate the bait with illness. A 'complete kill' takes place killing all the rats/mice in the colony depending when the bait is eaten. All activity should stop within 7-14 days. There is a slight risk some may die in places such as under floorboards and although every effort will be made for this not to happen we can not accept responsibility, and the majority of dead rodents will be removed. Up to three visits may be needed depending on the infestation.
After Treatment:
Any recommendations given by the technician should be done as soon as possible to prevent any re-infestation taking hold, all bait will be removed once treatment has finished, and proofing can be done at an extra cost.
GREY SQUIRREL: (Sciurus carolinensis)
Why Control?
When squirrels enter a loft space, they can cause structural damage by tearing up loft insulation for bedding, chewing timbers, pipe work and stored items, also posing a fire hazard by stripping insulation from electrical wiring. If water storage tanks are not covered they can fall in and drown and may contaminate the water supply, if not noticed, for these reasons, it is important to keep squirrels out of lofts. Squirrels in gardens are also destructive pests, taking bird's eggs and chicks, stripping bark eating plants and bulbs.
Importance
It is not recommended to block any holes until the squirrels have been removed, as this may cause further damage.
Treatment:There are several methods for the treatment of squirrels:
1. Cage Traps: These are live catch traps which catch the squirrel alive.Squirrels can not be released back into the wild once trapped
2. Spring Traps: These kill the squirrel out right.
3. Poison Baiting: WARFARIN @0.02%, mixed with wholegrain wheat. This is the only poison bait allowed by law to be used on Grey Squirrels, poison baiting can take time, if access to other types of food is available (bird food), squirrels poisoned are prone to die in un accessible places which can lead to smell and flies if not recovered.
Rat /mice poison is total illegal to use on squirrels.
After Treatment:
If the problem is internal then after treatment has been completed it is important that the building is proofed. Redditch Pest Control will guarantee to remove all squirrels from the loft space, but there are no guarantees for outside treatments as other squirrels will move into the vacant territory.
WASPS Common - German Vespula Vulgaris Vespula Germanica
Do I have a wasps nest?
Are wasps going into the roof Are wasps going into a hole in the cavity or ground Are wasps going under the fascia Are wasps using a air brick If the answer is yes to any of the above you may have a active wasps nest
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not be tempted to block the hole up, this will make them angry and aggressive and they may find another entrance. Wasps are aggressive and will sting readily if they think the nest is in danger.
Treatment
Nests are treated using an insecticide called FICAM D, which contains Bendiocarb 1% w/w. This is a modem biodegradable insecticide that is not highly toxic to mammals, but is extremely so to the hymenopterous group of insects. (Wasps, bees, ants). Nests in most cases can be treated and removed on the same day.
After Treatment
After the nest has been treated all activity should ceases within a few hours. Points to remember
1. Once a nest as been treated it will not be used again.
2. Queens do not move the nest to a new location.
3. The same entry point can be re-used but not the same nest.
Other Pest Coved
Redditch Pest also covers other pests:
Fox’s – Moles – Rabbits – Mink – Fleas – Cluster Flies - Bed Bugs – Pigeons – Ants Mites – Bees – Beetles - Silver Fish - Wood lice.
